PROGRESS-BASED SYMIX / SYTELINE CONSULTING

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS TO DEVELOP BENEFICIAL PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES

The newest releases of Syteline (version 7 and on) utilize SQL rather than the previously used Progress software. Several companies have chosen not to upgrade their Symix/Syteline installation and/or have decided to drop Syteline maintenance. Additionally, the Syteline business partners have focused their time and resources on the SQL-based versions, leaving the older Progress-based versions without support. If you are one of these companies without support, then I would like to assist you in your specific Symix/Syteline usage. I have over 25 years of experience working with Symix/Syteline Progress-based systems.

By utilizing the Progress portion of your current Symix/Syteline system, you can achieve virtually the same productivity offered by the newer versions. No further computer software is necessary. All you need is someone with the knowledge and experience to put this together for your unique situation.

In today’s fast-paced world of business, every organization is looking for that competitive edge. To help achieve that edge, a business needs to create leaner, faster processes which require less time and money.

For example, if your organization sends out mass mailings, how much does it cost for paper, envelopes, and stamps plus the time to create the forms, address, seal, stamp and mail the envelopes? A process which would normally take several hours can easily be reduced to a single push of a button creating significant financial savings.

How beneficial would it be to your organization and suppliers if vendors could see your real-time MRP requirements for the items they supply? Not only requirements for today, but for the next several months and years. Vendors could better supply your company’s needs in a timely manner with few surprises to your organization or to the vendor.

Inventory levels are one of the main drivers to a company’s positive cash flow. But how do you monitor inventory levels and maintain necessary quantities? What segment of your current inventory is obsolete, slow moving, active, or current? For every product line, what are the current inventory levels of the associated raw material to its finished-goods level? Being able to dissect inventory in every imaginable way, allows an organization to maintain healthy and profitable inventory quantities.

When a report requires bar coding, customization can be added to include bar codes. Additionally, bar coding can be added to shipping labels which can be adhered to shipments for improved tracking.

For programs or processes required on a regular basis, or functions that need to execute from previous events, system background queues and database triggers are essential
for achieving system automation. By utilizing these functions, employee time, training and system timing are no longer issues.

How many man hours are required to accumulate data, process it, and create reports, charts and graphs of that data? Once automated, your system can find and process data, create reports with charts and graphs, and e-mail the final product to all necessary recipients. The savings to your organization will be substantial.

In standard Symix/SyteLine, users are required to manually enter customer orders and purchase orders. Through the push of a single button, orders can be automatically imported directly into the system, saving hours of work and virtually eliminating human error.

These detail only a few examples of what can be done to improve your organizational efficiency. There is far more potential for creating programs, processes and procedures that will drastically save your organization valuable time, resources and money. If you want to achieve the full benefit of your current Symix/Syteline Progress-based investment, plus give your system users the tools to be successful, please do not hesitate to contact me.
